Excel is a spreadsheet software widely issued across the globe. In this software, we can any kind of data related works like Manipulation, Editing, Management, Analyzing and Generation of Report.

As far as Data is concerned, there are a total of 4 Types of Data available in Excel by which we can be done our jobs. Below are the types of data which we can use in Excel;

  • Text
  • Number
  • Date
  • Function or Formula
Text - Text data types are the very first data type in excel. It can be any alphabetical data like someone's name, company name or anything which includes Text.

Number - Numer Data means it consists of only numerical values. In excel we can type up to 15 digits of Numerical Data within a single cell. Post that all Data will be converted into Zero by default.

Date - It's slightly like numerical data but it's in a date format. The format is based on your system format that means in excel whenever you want to type the date you have to type it as your system formats like DD/MM/YYYY or anything else. One more thing you can type dates on or after 1/1/1900, not before that.

Function or Formula - These two are basically same the only difference is in the formula it only with cell reference or values but in function, there will be a proper function name is available as well as a syntax by which the function will go to work. Before starting any function or formula you have to put "=" sign otherwise excel can't understand that it's a formula like "=A1+A2", "=SUM(A1, A2)".

Any other data which can not be categories within Number, Date and Function or Formula will be treated as Text Data type. Like number with special character or text, Date with a special character. Ex: abc123, 123>@, ><1/4/2220.

Alignment:

Excel has default alignment for all the data types;
  • Text - Left Alignment
  • Number - Right Alignment
  • Date - Right Alignment
  • Function or Formula - Depends on Result if it is text then left else right.

Even if they have their default alignment that doesn't mean you can't change it. You are free to change the alignment as per your requirements and choice.
